Petition To Labour And Tory Ministers Regarding NHS Patient Deaths In Private Hospitals

A Labour Government Gave Us the NHS, Now they are about to take it away!

The BBC Panorama programme broadcast on Monday 8th April was a wake-up call for the public as it finally looked at the demolition of the NHS and the increasing privatisation and the subsequent deaths occurring to NHS patients in the private healthcare sector.

Anti-privatisation pressure group We Own It has supported the campaign to re-instate the NHS and repeal the Health & Social Care Act 2012 and the final nail in the coffin of the NHS, the Health and Care Act 2022 which Labour did not object to at all!

The WE Own It email today goes into detail of what is going on in the NHS in the form of political interference and plans of Wess Streeting Shadow Health Secretary, who refuses to support Labour's previous pledge to re-instate the NHS to what it was before the coalition government of 2010.

Urging everyone to sign their petition to both Streeting And Tory Health Minister, Victoria Atkins, to halt their plans for even further private hospitals doing surgery on NHS patients, whilst the NHS picks up both the bill and the remedial surgery required after the private sector has botched the operations and placed the patient at risk of permanent injury and even death!

Previously this website reported on the study by Oxford University that clearly showed that 'Healthcare Privatisation Harms Public Health' which is the basis for tonight's edition of Panorama.

We Own It explains further in their email to NHS supporters and anti-privatisation campaigners and urges them to sign the petition to stop a future Labour Government from simply continueing the Tory policy to privatise healthcare in England and then in the whole of the UK:

"Over the past few years, the government has sent NHS patients to get operations in private hospitals, funded by taxpayers.

BBC Panorama just revealed NHS patient deaths following operations in private hospitals.

Unbelievably, Wes Streeting and Victoria Atkins, the Labour and Conservative health leads, are talking about outsourcing even more NHS operations to private hospitals."

Referring to the Post Office scandal as an example of how politicians have to be forced to act to correct the immoral and dangerous actions of private companies, the email goes further:

"We saw how the recent Post Office drama on TV forced politicians to act.

While the whole nation is talking about this Panorama documentary, can you take 1 minute to sign our petition demanding Wes Streeting and Victoria Atkins stop risking patients’ lives and invest in our NHS instead?"

Some basic facts are revealed by We Own It:

"The vast majority of private hospitals do not have intensive care units, meaning that if patients develop complications there, their lives are in danger.

They don’t have their own staff - they leech over 18,000 doctors from the NHS.

They only accept profitable patients, which means they care more about profits than patients.

Despite only taking the simplest cases, 791 NHS patients who were treated in private hospitals in just four years, have sued those private hospitals for medical negligence - AND WON.

And just last month, an Oxford University study has shown that NHS outsourcing leads to poor quality care for patients.

You can make sure Wes Streeting and Victoria Atkins know that sending patients to private hospitals, is putting patients at risk."

As stated to the Sunday Times in December 2023, Wes Streeting promises that Labour will not put more money into the NHS to reso0lve its underfunding, but will use technology, even unproven because the private sector does not have access to conduct proper scientific trials; to deny access to GPs and Hospitals. He wants people to self diagnose and self treat at home using mobile phone apps!!

Wess Streeting said:

"I don’t think it’s good enough that the NHS uses every winter crisis and every challenge it faces as an excuse to ask for more money.”

Furthermore, he added:

“The NHS is going to have to get used to the fact that money is tight and it’s going to have to get used to switching spend, and rethinking where and how care is delivered to deliver better outcomes for patients and better value for taxpayers’ money. At the moment, I think we get the worst of all worlds, which is poor outcomes alongside poor value for taxpayers."

In other words Labour will continue to starve the NHS of proper funding!

His speech clearly written by the private healthcare interest lobby he has taken some £193,000 over two years from them.

Streeting presents using the private sector as a short term solution that has no negative effect on the NHS and on patients.

But here are 3 reasons outsourcing operations to private hospitals even in the short-term is a terrible policy:

- The NHS uses the most straightforward operations, which are currently outsourced, to train its doctors - outsourcing means the NHS can't train the doctors needed to fill the nearly 10,000 vacancies for doctors in the NHS.

- Spending NHS money on private hospitals builds up and strengthens private healthcare, and weakens the NHS. This amounts to investing in two-tier healthcare in Britain.

- Using the private hospitals is far more expensive because they end up dumping any complications that arise back onto the NHS - 550 such cases arise every month on average.

In a recent poll, 78% of the British public, from across the political spectrum, want our NHS fully public - and properly funded.

You have a huge opportunity right now to demand that Wes Streeting adopt your demand that he end NHS outsourcing into the Labour Party’s election manifesto.

In it's final paragraph, WE Own It urges everyone to sign their petition:

The NHS has just lived through the worst 14 years of underfunding, understaffing and outsourcing in its history. Please sign and share the petition to show them the strength of opposition to another 5 years of NHS privatisation.

Tonight’s Panorama documentary shows how vital your fight for our NHS is.

Thank you for being a part of this fight for an NHS that works for patients, and not the profits of private healthcare shareholders."
